What is Move for Mind?
This winter get going, raise money and join the fight for mental health. It’s time to Move for Mind. We challenge you to set yourself a 30 day exercise and fundraising goal. What this looks like? That’s up to you.
You can dance, swim, box, skip – so long as you’re moving for 30 days and having fun, it counts. You choose how you want to get active to raise money, and help us fight to ensure everyone gets the respect and support they deserve. Your 30 days don’t have to be one after another - take your time and have fun. Exercise is personal, so pace it out in a way that works for you, and be sure to plan in rest days.
As a thank you, we'll even send a t-shirt your way when you hit that first £50, a medal when you raise £150, and a branded Move for Mind beanie if you reach £350!
What challenge/activity can I do?
You can do anything you like to take part in Move for Mind. Have a dance round your living room, a jog round the park before work or walk along the coast each weekend. Your 30 days don’t have to be one after another - take your time and have fun. Exercise and rest time is personal, so pace it out in a way that works.
Stuck for ideas? Why not try:
- dancing for 30 minutes every other day – you could even create a playlist to help you prepare
- cycle 100 miles in 30 days
- completing different workout classes throughout your 30 days
- get to know your neighbourhood by walking a different route each day for 30 days
- fill a jar with 30 exercises, and pick one out each time to try - you could even ask people to sponsor you to put an exercise idea in the jar.
Remember your 30 days don’t have to be one after another - take your time and have fun. Exercise and rest time is personal, so pace it out in a way that works for you, and be sure to plan in rest days.
We have lots of information about choosing an activity that works for you. Visit here
What day does it start on?
Sign up anytime from December 1 to January 31, and start your challenge whenever you’d like.
Your 30 days don’t have to be one after another - take your time and have fun. Exercise and rest time is personal, so pace it out in a way that works, but make sure you’re finished by March 2.
Can I take rest days?
Yes! Your 30 days don’t have to be one after another. In fact, taking rest days can help to improve both physical and mental health and allow time for the body and mind to recover. Everyone is different, but it’s important that we mix up our routines and plan in rest days whenever we need them.
Rest is personal, and can come in the form of doing no physical activity, or through taking active rest. Active rest can be described as taking part in light or easy activity where you’re still moving but not at the intensity level that you normally move, or by doing something different to your usual routine. You can read more about the relationship between physical activity and your mental health in our toolkit guide here
Can I register for my challenge to start after the end of January?
Registration for Move for Mind will close on January 31. This will be the final date in which you can begin your challenge - but don’t worry! You can start your 30 days then, just make sure you're finished by March 2 to qualify for a t-shirt, medal, or beanie
How do I remain safe during the challenge from coronavirus?
It is important that you stay up to date and follow the UK Government guidance including from devolved nations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland when undergoing your challenge. Advice could change over a period of time so in order to ensure you stay safe for yourself and other people we advise that you keep up-to-date with announcements and apply any new requirements and limitations to your fundraising.
Please consider carefully whether you wish to take on the challenge if you may be in vulnerable circumstances or be at higher risk from coronavirus. Your safety is the most important thing to us, and we do not want anybody to put themselves at risk through fundraising.

Teams
Can I take part as a team?
Absolutely! Whether you want to inspire your family to create new and healthy habits, or encourage some friendly competition amongst your friends - Move for Mind is even more fun when you’ve got teammates to keep you motivated.
To set up an official team just follow these steps:
- Sign up. By signing up you automatically create an individual page.
- Once you have registered with your individual page, you will be given the option to ‘create a team’ or ‘join a team’.
- Nominate a team leader to create the team page, and share the team name with you and your team members
- Each team member will need to sign up to create their individual page, they will be able to search for your team name, and select 'Join a team'
- Setting up your team like this means we automatically receive everyone’s details to fulfil individual t-shirt, medal, and beanie orders, when each person raises £50, £150, and £350.
- Please note, if you do not create an official team and instead decide to share your individual page with a team member, you will need to contact us on move@mind.org.uk to organise additional t-shirts, medals, and beanies once you’ve reached £50, £150, and £350 fundraising per person.
Are you fundraising in a team?
If all your team have individual pages linked to an official team page, we will automatically receive everyone’s details to fulfil individual t-shirt, medal, and beanie orders when each person raises £50, £150, or £350.
However, please note that if you are sharing your individual page with another person or team member, you will need to contact us once you have reached £50, £150, and £350 per person on your shared page to arrange for additional t-shirts, medals, and beanies to be sent to your team members.
Fundraising
Can I fundraise offline?
We recommend using JustGiving to fundraise for Move for Mind, it’s secure and means you don’t have to handle any cash or worry about paying in donations, everything comes direct to us. Not only that but you’ll be able to share your challenge with others with the Move for Mind leader board, and add your fundraising to our Move for Mind team total!
If you are given donations in cash we recommend paying this onto your page yourself to keep everything in one place.
I am having problems setting up my Just Giving page
Sorry to hear that - please contact the JustGiving helpdesk here who will be able to advise you on any issues with your page.
Can I fundraise for a local Mind?
Move for Mind is a fundraising challenge created by national Mind, with all fundraising and registrations completed through this site supporting the work national Mind does. This year a selection of local Minds have chosen to take part in Move For Mind as well, so if you’d prefer to support your local charity then check which local Minds are taking part by clicking here.
The Mind network is a federated structure with each Mind being an independent charity and responsible for their own fundraising. We at national Mind are a separate charity from the local Mind organisations, and while we have similar aims and values, we fulfil slightly different roles. We provide the nationwide information services, Infoline, and campaign nationally for support and respect for everyone experiencing a mental health problem. This structure allows the local Minds to work on front line services specifically for the communities that they work with.
Is there a minimum fundraising target?
All we ask is that you raise as much as you can through your Just Giving page. As a thank you we’ll even send a t-shirt your way when you hit that first £50, a medal when you raise £150, and an exclusive Move for Mind beanie if you reach £350.
